Road accidents kill three

At least three people were killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh and Sirajganj yesterday. Our correspondent from Mymensingh reports: Two people were killed and 25 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Nishindha in Bhaluka upazila yesterday. The victims were identified as Billal Hossain 25, son of Lal Miah of village Nowapara and Muklesur Rahman, 28, son of Abul Kalam of village Birampur in Trishal upazila. Police said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Mymensingh hit another bus from behind overturning the latter around 7:00am. Of the injured, 17 were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Billal and Muklesur Rahman succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital, police said. Of the injured, 15, including four women, are undergoing treatment at MMCH. Conditions of five were stated to be critical, hospital sources said. A correspondent from Sirajganj adds: One motorcyclist was killed and two Junior School Certificates (JSC) examinees were injured in a road accident on Sirajganj-Enayetpur road at Subarnasara yesterday. The deceased was identified as Jakirul, 22, son of Thandu Mia of Banshbaria village under Kamarkhand upazila of the district. Locals said Jakirul was taking his sister Shahida and another girl to the JSC examination centre at the Belkuchi School riding a motorcycle. A pick-up van ran over their motorcycle from behind at Subarnasara, leaving Jakirul dead on the spot and two girls injured. Shahida, 14, and Hosne Ara, 14, were rushed to the Belkuchi Upazila Health complex in a critical condition.
