Implement CHT accord fully, demands PCJSS
Leaders pay tribute to MN Larma
Leaders of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and its front organisations yesterday reiterated their demands for full implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord and withdrawal of all remaining temporary security camps in the hill region.
They were speaking at a memorial meeting on Manabendra Narayan Larma (MN Larma) on his 27th death anniversary at Shilpakala Academy in the town.
MN Larma was the founder of PCJSS and elder brother of Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma, president of PCJSS and chairman of CHT Regional Council.
Laxmi Prasad Chakma, political affairs secretary of PCJSS central committee was the chief guest at the function.
Chaired by Gunendu Bikash Chakma, president of PCJSS Rangamati district unit, the meeting was also addressed by convenor of MN Larma Memorial Foundation Bijoy Keton Chakma, leader of Bangladesh Adivasi Forum Ashwini Kumar Gurkha, CHT Mohila Samity president Madhabi Lata Chakma, cultural activist Shishir Chakma, PCJSS district secretary Nilutpal Khisa and Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) district secretary Sunirmol Dewan.
Recalling MN Larma's outstanding contribution to the welfare of hill people in CHT, they said the jummo people are proud of his dedicated, honest and patriotic leadership. Manabendra fought for constitutional recognition to indigenous communities, they pointed out.
He (MN Larma) dedicated his entire life for establishment of rights of indigenous people in hills and the jummo people will never forget him, they added.
They strongly urged the present government to withdraw all remaining temporary security camps from CHT for the interest of full implementation of CHT accord.
PCJSS men and its front workers later offered wreath at the temporary memorial tomb of MN Larma built on the premises of district Shilpakala Academy.
Earlier, a mourning procession was brought out from Banarupa petrol pump point which paraded to Shilpakala Academy. Hundreds of leaders and activists of PCJSS and PCP and Mohila Samity from different upazilas of the district took part in the procession.
In Khagrachhari, the PCJSS held a memorial meeting on the premises of the headstone of MN Larma at Mohajonpara with Central Convener Sudhashendu Khesha as chief guest, reports a correspondent.
District PCJSS president Sudtakoar Tripurai presided the meeting white leaders of different front and social organisations attended.
Before the meeting, PCJSS and its front organisations placed wreaths at the headstone of MN Larma and observed one-minute's silence.
Born in 1941 MN Larma founded the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) on February 15, 1972. In 1977 he organised the Shanti Bahini, an armed front operating in the Hill Tracts area. He was murdered by criminals on November 10, 1983.
