Practise values, mutual respect for democracy: Zillur

President Zillur Rahman yesterday called for practicing values as well as showing mutual respect and tolerance to others' opinions for institutionalising democracy in the country. He made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at a national conference titled “Dignity for all: Bangladesh as a model for the global community.” Civic Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy jointly organised it at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city. Zillur urged all to practice culture of dignity in all spheres including familial, societal, and national life to build a happy, prosperous, and dignified country. He said democracy and good governance are closely related to the dignity of citizens because progress of good governance and democracy plays important role in establishing a just society. The president said flourishing of democracy cannot be imagined without good governance, citizens' rights, and dignity. “It's a matter of hope that the government has taken measures to educate all people by 2014. I urge the countrymen to extend their all-out cooperation to implement the program,” he said. Home Minister Sahara Khatun, Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Dr Robert W Fuller, and Executive Director of Civic Bangladesh Baizid Doula also spoke at the event.
