Road crashes kill 4

Four people were killed in separate road accidents in the city and Thakurgaon yesterday. Our staff correspondent reports: Two people were killed in two separate road accidents in the city yesterday. Noor Islam, 25, a transport worker of Doyaganj was killed when a bus hit him at Doyaganj intersection of Demra at about 6:00am. Selim Miah, sub-inspector of Demra Police Station, said a speedy city bus of Rajdhani Paribahan hit the human hauler helper when he was crossing the intersection. Police seized the bus but the driver and helper of the bus fled the scene, he added. Police sent the body to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, a rickshaw puller Nurul Miah, 55, was killed on the spot as a speedy bus hit his rickshaw in front of Suritola Primary School at Bangshal at about 6:30am. Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College for autopsy. Our correspondent from Thakurgaon adds: A motorcyclist and his wife were killed in a road accident when a Haripur-bound speedy bus crushed them under its wheels while they were coming from Haripur on Ranishankoil-Haripur road at Bolidara village of Ranishankoil upazila yesterday afternoon. The deceased are Yunus Ali, 50, of Bandanga village under Pirganj upazila and his wife Fatema Begum, 45. Police arrested the driver and seized the bus after half an hour of the accident.
