'Shootout' with Rab
Youth killed
An alleged operative of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) was killed and another injured in separate 'shootouts' with law enforcers in Pabna early yesterday.
The dead was identified as Hafizul Islam Reza, 35, military commander of PBCP (ML-Janajuddha) while the injured as Al Amin, 26, a cadre of PBCP (Red Flag faction).
Reza, an accused in six cases including four for murder, was killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel at Nurdaha in Santhia upazila around 1:00am.
Following a tip that Reza, who had been on the run for the last few days, was going to his village home, a team from Rab-12 raided the village.
They found Reza in front of a wetland and asked him to surrender, said Rab adding, instead of obeying, he opened fire on Rab members prompting retaliation.
Sources said Reza received a bullet during the 'gunfight' and died on the spot.
The law enforcers recovered two light guns and 10 bullets from the spot.
In another incident, Al Amin was injured during a 'shootout' with police on the premises of Kuabashi Union Health Complex in Chatmohor upazila around 2:00am, said police.
He hailed from Laxmipur Falia in Chatmohor and was accused in a number of cases.
