Security blanket before World Cup Cricket: DMP
Police will carry out special operation in the city to build up general security blanket before the World Cup Cricket, to be inaugurated here on February 17.
Briefing reporters after a mock security drill at Mirpur stadium yesterday afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed said nine hotels in the city were given security clearance after examining all security aspects and requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to circulate it worldwide.
Apart from the nine hotels, security measures will be in place at other hotels in the city as well.
“It's a challenging global event, and we've taken all measures keeping in mind all aspects of security,” the commissioners said.
Recalling the attacks on cricket players in Lahore, Benazir said the players would be given security escorts during their movement.
“We'll not be reactive but pro-active,” the commissioner said.
Earlier, mock security show was staged at Mirpur stadium.
