Thanks to the Finance Minister

The news about the government trying to make changes in the ACC which makes it compulsory for the anti-graft body to take permission of the government before filing corruption cases against government officials stunned me by its absurdity that I felt disinclined even to write about it. From the May 20, 2011 issue of The Daily Star, I learned that the Parliamentary Standing Committee on law ministry, and the finance minister, has opposed the proposed changes to the ACC act. It has been disclosed that the Finance Minister sent a letter to the Parliamentary Standing Committee suggesting that the proposed provision for making it mandatory to take government permission prior to filing corruption cases against government officials be scrapped. Oh, what a relief, it is heartening to learn that there are at least some people in the government who have sound judgment. We hope they will not be swayed by outside influence, do what is right, and make people happy with their decisions.
