Brickfield fume harms farmland
Four acres of land with boro paddy ready for harvest was damaged due to excessive heat and fumes emitted from a nearby brick kiln at Dhantola in Gangachara upazila.
When the brick kiln owner refused to pay compensation, affected farmers filed complaints with upazila nirbahi officer of Gangachara upazila and other concerned departments.
Farmers said boro paddy on the west side of the brick kiln adjacent to Dhantola Bazar turned black. As per rules, no brick kiln can be set up within three kilometres of locality but the owner violated the rule, farmers alleged.
