World No Tobacco Day observed

The World No Tobacco Day was observed across the country yesterday as elsewhere across the world in a befitting manner. The World Health Organisation (WHO) selected this year's theme for the day is "The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control" Various programmes were chalked out to mark the day at different places of the country including in the city. Daffodil International University, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka and Management and Resource Development Initiative (MRDI) jointly organised a mass signature collection programme as a part of their anti-tobacco campaign on the day. Prof Golam Rahman, dean of the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Daffodil International University, inaugurated the campaign as the chief guest. A 650 feet long banner was kept in front of the Jatiya Press Club for collection of signature on it. All walks of people including students of different universities and colleges, men and women signed on the banner. Protom Alo Bandhushava, Daffodil International University unit, organised an anti-tobacco poster competition in observance of the day. Vice-chancellor of the university Prof M Lutfar Rahman inaugurated the poster competition.
