Road crashes kill 4, injure 15

Four people were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong and Comilla yesterday. Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: One was killed and five others injured in separate road accidents. Four people were injured seriously as a speeding bus rammed into a roadside hotel on the north sideway of 3rd Karnaphuli Bridge in Chittagong yesterday. The injured were Salim, 32, Sahajahan, 45, Siddique 32 and Sohel 18. Police rescued the injured and rushed them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). Police said the accident took place when a Chittagong-bound bus from Cox's Bazar rammed into the hotel and injured its four customers and also damaged most of the hotel. Drivers often failed to maintain control over the steering before the roundabout when they come from the slope after the bridge, police added. Locals said accidents at this point has become a regular incident. The design of the approach road of the bridge is responsible for the accidents, they added. Meanwhile, a helper of a truck was killed and its driver seriously injured as two trucks collided head-on in front of GPH factory at Sitakunda. The deceased is Lokman, 25. The injured Idrish Mia, 35, was admitted to CMCH. UNB from Comilla adds: At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Chandina bus stand in Chandina upazila. The deceased are identified as Masud Hasan, 28, of Sandwip; Yusuf Ali, 22, of Halishahar; and the bus driver Md Selim, 33, of Amirabad village of Lohagora upazila of Chittagong. Police said the accident occurred around 4:00am when the Dhaka bound bus of Eagle Paribahan collided with the Comilla-bound truck, leaving three passengers of the bus dead on the spot and 10 others injured. Of the injured, three were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
