Seven killed in road accidents

Ahmad Ziaul KarimAt least seven people, including former principal of Mymensingh Technical Training Centre, were killed in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Manikganj and Brahmanbaria yesterday.
Our correspondent from Mymensingh reports: Four people, including a couple, were killed and another was injured as a bus hit a human hauler on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Muktagachha upazila here yesterday.
The deceased are Shambul Islam, 26, and his wife Asma Khatun, 22, of Araibaria village, Nazrul Islam, 50, of Shivpur village and Rina Akter, 12, of Bitipara in Muktagachha upazila.
Mir Rakibul Haque, officer-in-charge of Muktagachha Police Station, said the accident occurred when a Tangail-bound BRTC bus hit a nasiman, a locally-made three-wheeler, near Kalibari Ramchandrapur about 10:30am, leaving five passengers of the human hauler critically injured.
Shambul and Asma succumbed to their injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital while the rest at Muktagachha Upazila Health Complex.
Habibur Rahman is undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.
Staff correspondent adds: Ahmad Ziaul Karim, former principal of Mymensingh Technical Training Centre (TTC), was killed in a road accident at Singair in Manikganj yesterday.
The accident occurred when the bus of Ziaul Karim fell into a roadside ditch near Azimpur bridge around 11:00am, leaving 10 passengers injured.
Ziaul Karim was taken to a local hospital with injuries in his head. He was transferred to Suhrawardy Hospital in the capital where doctors declared him dead around 1:00pm.
He left behind his wife Monwara Begum, and two daughters Zinnia and Anita.
His body, kept at the mortuary at Central Hospital in the capital, will be buried after his younger daughter returns from England on Thursday.
He was also former principal of SFM Women's TTC and TTC in Mirpur.
Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria says: Two motorbike riders were killed when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit a bike on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Suhagpur village under Ashuganj upazila in the district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Rony, 25, and Mozammel, 26, of Madhabdi upazila of Narsingdi district.
Police and hospital sources said a speeding truck hit the motorbike at Suhagpur intersection while Rony and Mozammel were going to Madhabdi from their sister's house, leaving them injured seriously. They succumbed to their injuries on the way to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
