10 killed, 35 injured in road accidents

Ten people were killed and 35 others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Narsingdi, Bogra, Panchagarh, Sirajganj, and Chittagong yesterday and Monday. Our Tangail correspondent reports: Three separate road accidents in the district killed four people and injured six others early yesterday. Two bus passengers were killed on the spot and six others injured after the Dhaka-bound bus collided head-on with a truck on Bangabandhu Bridge approach road at Kandila in the sadar upazila around 5:00am. Deceased are Nupur, 18, daughter of Amanullah of Dhamrai in Dhaka, and Shamim, 7, son of Abdul Hakim of Haluapara in Nilphamari. The injured were taken to Tangail General Hospital. In Basail upazila, a man identified as Shafiq Miah, 32, of Sthalballa village of the upazila, was crushed under the wheels of a pick-up at Naksim around 6:00am. In Mirzapur upazila, an unidentified mango trader died after a mango-laden pickup van fell into a ditch on Bangabandhu Bridge approach road at Postkamuri. Our Narsingdi correspondent says: Two passengers of a Dhaka-bound bus were killed on the spot and 20 others injured as the bus, being hit by a truck from opposite direction, fell into the roadside ditch at Kondarpara in Shibpur upazila yesterday. One of the dead was identified as Shah Alam, 27, of Bhairab in Kishoreganj. The injured were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and Bhairab Upazila Health Complex. Our staff correspondent from Bogra reports: Two people were killed as a bus rammed a rickshaw on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in Sherpur upazila Monday night. Deceased are rickshaw-puller Amirul Islam, 50, and its passenger Tariqul Islam, 17. Sherpur police said a Bogra-bound passenger bus hit the rickshaw near Dhunat intersection around 11:30pm, leaving Amirul dead on the spot. Tariqul succumbed to his injuries at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, Bogra. Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports: A bicyclist was killed and another one injured after a truck hit the vehicle on Boda-Debigonj road at Fullbari village under Boda upazila in Panchagarh Monday night. Dead is Motier Rahaman, 28, son of Hasem Ali of Fullbari of the upazila. Police said Motier and his brother Faruk, 20, were riding home when the accident took place. Locals took them to Boda Health Complex where Motier succumbed to his injuries moments later. Faruk was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Our Sirajganj correspondent says: A person was killed and six others injured as a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Sirajganj-Bogra highway at Shialkot in the sadar upazila yesterday. Dead is Chandu Sheikh, 25, of the district sadar. The injured, including Chandu's nine-month pregnant wife, were taken to Sirajganj hospital. Our staff correspondent form Ctg adds: A head-on collision between a pick-up van and a taxi at the Naval Avenue Area under Kotwali Police Station in the port city left three persons injured on Monday. The wounded were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
