45 hurt in UP poll violence
Two seperate incidents of violence over upazila parishad elections in Rajshahi left around 45 people injured yesterday.
Supporters of two chairmen candidates clashed over holding procession at Chaipara of Sreepur union leaving 15 people injured. Seven of the injured were admitted to local health complex.
Meanwhile, supporters of BNP-backed chairman candidate Nasir Uddin Babu clashed with police at Godagari in Deopara union after they barricaded Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj road at Rajabari point, leaving 30 people injured.
They alleged that Babu's polling agent was driven out from the recount at Nimtala voting centre, when the count came 1,170 from a previous 1,270.
At Dharampur vote centre, Babu's opponent Akhtaruzzaman of Awami League won by 17 votes in a similar recount, they alleged.
