BJP, RWPS see ambitious budget

Staff Correspondent
Terming the proposed budget ambitious, different political parties yesterday opined that it contained no reflection of people's development. In two seperate statements, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh (RWPS) and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) also claimed that the government did not take any steps to reduce price of essentials. BJP leaders said the proposed budget is full of risks and uncertainty and lacks specific direction for development of the private sector. Meanwhile, RWPS leaders said the allocation of Tk 1,000 crore for rural development is not sufficient. The party also criticised the finance minister for not mentioning anything specific on the share market crisis and feared that the tax burden would also be increased to meet the budget deficit. Bangladesh National Awami Party (NAP), led by Prof Mozzafar Ahmed, however termed the budget people-oriented. The party mentioned that the budget's success would depend on curbing price hike and corruption by the government and implementation of Annual Development Plan.
