Assault on Teacher
DU VC for action against husband
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday urged law enforcement agencies to take action against the man who critically assaulted his wife, a DU teacher.
Visiting the injured bed-ridden teacher of international relations department at city's LabAid Hospital, Prof Arefin said her eyes were blindfolded while different parts of her body bore marks of injury.
Victim's husband Syeed Hasan Sumon assaulted her on June 5 following a quarrel at her father's house in the city's Dhanmondi area.
Terming the incident as a “heinous” crime, Prof Arefin said university authorities would take action against the accused after talking to the victim's family. He also assured of necessary help for better treatment.
The victim's friend Zobaida Nasreen, a faculty member of DU's anthropology department, said the victim's family decided to send her abroad for better treatment.
Quoting doctors, she said the victim might lose sight permanently due to the severe injuries inflicted on her eyes.
International relations department Chairman Prof Dr Delwar Hossain also visited the victim at the hospital.
