'Portray Gaziul Haque's struggle in textbooks'

Speakers at a discussion urged the government to include the lifelong struggle and ideology of Language Movement veteran Gaziul Haque in school textbooks. They said Gaziul Haque struggled throughout his life against injustice and repression of autocratic rulers to establish the nation's rights. They were speaking at a memorial discussion organised by Amra Surjomukhi, a pro-liberation organisation, in the city's National Museum auditorium marking the language veteran's second death anniversary on Sunday. Addressing the programme as the chief guest, lawmaker Suranjit Sengupta said Gaziul Haque was "heroic and innovative", directly taking part in all national struggles and movements and the nation is forever indebted to him. Former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru, speaking as the special guest, said Gaziul Haque was one of the key leaders who put his life on the line to protect the prestige of our mother tongue. Barrister Amirul Islam said Gaziul Haque was one of the first to break section 144 on February 21 of 1952 and the nation could not continue speaking in Bangla without his contribution. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique and former lawmaker Abul Hasan Chowdhury addressed the programme with Prof Dr Zillur Rahman Siddiqui in the chair.
