Three commit suicide in city

A housewife, a rickshaw puller and a schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide in seperate incidents in the city yesterday. Police said housewife Nusrat Jahan Pinki, 36, committed suicide by drinking poison at her house in the city's Dhanmondi. Her husband Akbar Hossain said Pinki locked herself in her room and took poison following an altercation with him. They broke open the door and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead around 1:15am. The rickshaw puller Saiful Islam, 25, committed suicide by hanging from ceiling with a scarf in the city's Rayerbazar area. His wife Rahima Begum said Saiful locked her out of their house at Zafarabad following a row with her. In the morning, neighbours broke open the main door and discovered him hanging. Police sent the bodies to DMCH morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, a schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in the city's Green Road yesterday afternoon. The deceased Rabeya Akhter Pinki, 14, was a class IX student of Rajdhani Girl's High School. Police said Pinki hung herself from a ceiling fan in her room at their house at Mostafa Goli around 4:00pm following a row with her mother. Police broke open the door and rushed her to DMCH where doctors declared her dead.
