Five killed in Ctg road accident

Nine people were killed and another one injured in road accidents in Chittagong, Sylhet, and Jhenidah yesterday. Our staff correspondent from Ctg reports: Five persons were killed on the spot and another one wounded as a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Madam Bibirhat area in Sitakunda upazila yesterday. Deceased are auto-rickshaw driver Lokman, 31, of Jamalpur; Nurus Safa, 55, of Imamnagar of Sitakunda; and three ship-breaking workers hailing from Pirojpur -- Monir, 30, Mazid, 30, and Halim, 35. The injured was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Our staff correspondent from Sylhet says: Two motorcyclists were killed after a speeding truck from opposite direction hit the vehicle on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Otirbari area in Dakshin Surma upazila yesterday. Koysor Ahmed, 28, of the upazila's Lakshmipur village died on the spot and Kawsar Miah, 20 of the upazila's Kuchai Lamapara village at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Our Jhenidah correspondent adds: Two motorcyclists died on the spot after a lorry rammed the vehicle from behind on Jessore-Jhenidah highway at Mahishahati village in Kaliganj upazila yesterday. One of the dead is Pikul Hossain, 32, of Muktarpur village of Monirampur upazila in Jessore. The other victim could not be identified immediately.
