Improve quality of tea
PM urges tea estate owners
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged the tea garden owners to introduce modern technologies in their gardens and factories to improve the quality of tea and increase its production.
Hasina made the call when a delegation of Bangladesh Tea Association met her at the Prime Minister's office (PMO) in the morning. The association chairman Md Safwan Chowdhury led the team.
Hasina said the tea estate owners have to incorporate modern effective technologies for increasing production and improving quality of tea so that after meeting local demand, tea can be exported in large numbers.
Press Secretary to Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad told the journalists.
The prime minister reminded the tea garden owners of the past glory of tea industry of Bangladesh when huge volumes of tea used to be exported.
“The past glory of the cash crop has to be brought back,” she said.
Listing various measures taken and implemented by the present government for development of tea industries and tea workers, she said government's assistance to this sector will continue.
In this regard, she mentioned her government's steps for providing ration to the tea workers.
Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira, Imran Ahmed MP, Hafiz Ahmed Majumder MP and Laila Rahman Kabir were in the delegation.
Principal Secretary to the PM M A Karim, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Molla Waheeduzzaman and PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present.
