Pintu's bail stay extended
The Appellate Division yesterday extended its stay for a week on the operation of a High Court (HC) order that granted bail to former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu in connection with the BDR mutiny case.
It also asked the government to file regular leave petition in the meantime.
A bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain passed the order after a brief hearing on a government petition.
On June 9, the chamber court upon a government plea stayed the June 7 High Court order that had granted bail for six months to Pintu in the case.
Barrister Rafique-ul Huq and Khandker Mahbub Hossain appeared for Pintu.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while advocate Anisul Huq for BDR.
