Call to eliminate fundamentalism
Speakers at a seminar here yesterday urged all patriotic people to come forward to uproot fundamentalism to save the country from destruction.
At the seminar styled "Militant activities in Bangladesh and the sources of their money", they also called upon the government to restore the constitution of 1972.
The speakers said some past political parties made way for communal politics, alleging political and state support for communalism and fundamentalists in the country.
Prof MM Akash of Dhaka University read out the keynote paper at the seminar organised by Platform of Anti-Communalism and Militancy at Chittagong Press Club (CPC).
Akash said the fundamentalists and militant parties collects funds in the name of some non-governmental organisations (NGOs), hospitals, departmental stores, and real estates.
Big funds for the militants are collected through some banks and even through human trafficking, he added.
Prof Hasanuzzaman and Prof Moinul Islam of Chittagong University, Liberation War Museum Trustee Ziauddin Tareque Ali, Dr AQM Sirajul Islam, Gono Forum leader Jane Alam, the platform's member secretary Balagat Ullah, and poet Kamrul Hasan Badal also spoke at the programme chaired by Begum Mushtari Safi.
