Govt, NGOs' role to cut quake risks stressed
Speakers at an inception meeting yesterday emphasised that the government and non-government organisations involve in initiatives for effective earthquake risk reduction.
They said Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) should ensure proper monitoring system in the construction of all buildings across the city.
Social and Economic Enhancement Programme and Dhaka Ahsania Mission jointly organised the meeting for the project titled "A disaster resilient future: Mobilising communities and institution for effective risk reduction" at a hotel in Mirpur 11.
The implementation process and activities under the project, being implemented in six risky and over-populated wards of Mirpur, were discussed with stakeholders.
Abu Sadek, director of Disaster Management Bureau, said mitigation and preparedness activities should be mainstreamed in development process.
Dr Md Asfakus Salehin said schools have the opportunity to involve teachers, students, and management committees for initiating disaster risk reduction intervention.
