Singh's Invitation to Take Salute
Dhaka to reciprocate Delhi gesture
Dhaka is to reciprocate a 1998 New Delhi gesture by inviting Indian Army Chief and 1971 veteran General Vijay Kumar Singh to take salute at the passing out ceremony of army cadets at the military academy in Chittagong on June 22.
“This is an honour Bangladesh army is offering to a visiting Indian army chief, who also fought for our independence, while India showed the same gesture when our the then army chief General Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman 13 years ago as he visited India,” said an army spokesman.
The spokesman said Singh would join as the chief guest of the passing out ceremony of Bangladesh Military Academy's (BMA) 64th Long Course and the 35th Special Course on Wednesday when the new officers would honour him offering the salute.
Indian army in 1998 invited General Rahman, also a gallantry award winner 1971 veteran, to review the passing out parade of an outgoing officer cadets' batch in Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun as the chief guest.
