Staff Correspondent
Election Commission (EC) yesterday decided to suspend two presiding officers and all polling officers of two union parishad polling centres of Sherpur and Narsingdi on corruption charges. Scrutiny of a report found the polling officials involved with corruption and results of these two centres were also cancelled, said Election Commissioner M Shakhawat Hossain after EC's meeting at its secretariat in the city yesterday. SM Mahmudul Hasan, lecturer of Sreebordi Kamil Madrasa, was presiding officer of Jhagrarchar High School centre of Velua union of Sherpur. The other officer is Quiyum Khandaker, acting manager of Sonali Bank of Raipur branch, of Takirkandi polling centre of Mirzarchar union of Narsingdi. Names of many deceased people were in the voter list but all votes were cast in the centres. Surely some form of corruption was present, said the commissioner.
