An enforcement team of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) pulled down illegal advertising hoardings of around six unauthorised private housing projects in the city yesterday. They tore down a total of 22 hoardings of five widely publicised projects undertaken illegally in and around the capital in violation of the master plan, wetland and environment conservation laws and private housing development rules, said Rokon-Ud-Dowla, executive magistrate of Rajuk. The projects include Omega Island, Baridhara River City of Four Season Holdings, Xenovalley Pink City, Green Concept and Bestway City of Bestway Group. They put flashy hoardings along the Airport Road stretching from Banani (Kakoli) to Kuratoli, he added. Of the pulled down hoardings, 11 were of Omega Island. The team carried out the drive at Banani, in front of Navy Headquarters, Cantonment First Gate, Staff Road, Zia Colony and Joar Sahara. Shafiqul Islam and Parvez Khadem, both authorised officers of Rajuk, Sirajul Islam, deputy town planner of Rajuk and Chaiti Biswas, assistant town planner were with the team. A High Court bench on June 8 declared a total of 77 private housing projects illegal and directed Rajuk to stop unauthorised housing projects in and around Dhaka city, earth-filling, sale of plots and remove signboards. Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela), Ain O Salish Kendra, Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan, Institute of Architects Bangladesh and Paribesh Bachao Andolan jointly filed a writ petition in this regard with the HC.
