Attack on Limon protest programme condemned
Different organisations and eminent citizens yesterday condemned the attack on the protest programme against "the government's repression" on Rab victim Limon Hossain in front of the city's National Museum on Friday.
They also demanded the attackers be traced and punished, say press releases.
The organisations are Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Group Theater Federation, Bangladesh Patha Natak Parishad, Bangladesh Abritti Samannay Parishad, and Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad.
Meanwhile, 62 eminent citizens including university teachers, rights activist, lawyers of the country condemned the attack in a written statement yesterday.
The signatories include Hamida Hossain, Prof Anu Muhammad, Khusi Kabir, Dr Zafarullah Chowdhury, Prof Dr Gitiara Nasreen, Prof Dr Akmal Hossain, Prof Amena Mohsin, Barrister Sara Hossain, Selim Reza Newton, and Jobaida Nasrin.
Some unidentified youths on Friday assaulted a performer and vandalised some instruments while Aranyak Theatre was staging a street drama.
Songkhubdho Nagorik Samaj organised the protest programme demanding withdrawal of the cases against Limon and the government's compensation to him.
The crowd caught one of the attackers and handed him over to police, but police released him yesterday saying they did not get his involvement in the attack.
Officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Rezaul Karim said police were investigating the matter, but could not have traced the attackers.
Rapid Action Battalion shot 16-year-old Limon, a college student, in his left leg at Chhaturia of Rajapur, Jhalakathi on March 23. Later, his leg had to be amputated.
