Reasonable education allowance
Government of Bangladesh introduced education allowance in pay scale 2009 for employees of the republic. An employee gets at least Tk. 200 for one child per month, and maximum Tk. 300 per month. The amount is very insignificant in relation to the current living cost of common people. After introduction of pay scale 2009, two financial years have passed.
Inflation was 8.65% in the year 2009-10 and 10.20% in the year 2010-11. Moreover, as per current proposed national budget, a government employee has to pay income tax from his own income. People are confronting financial hardships now. As an interim measure, the elected government can consider enhancing the education allowance to Tk. 1,000 per school going child and for two children in a family. Educational expenses at college or university level are much high nowadays. Hope the govt. will pay attention to people's welfare.
