Violation of Building Code
CDA plans action against realtors
The Chittagong Development Authority has taken a project to take action against developers, which violated building codes in any constructions in the port city.
The City Development Committee has primarily detected 22 buildings constructed with serious violation, said Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam, president of the committee.
Dr Alam, also professor of Chittagong University of Science and Technology (Cuet), presented a report during a meeting at CDA conference room yesterday.
The report says 22 buildings constructed by different developer companies are listed, of which 16 are seriously vulnerable.
Prof Alam said there are 1.82 lakh buildings in the port city, and 90 percent of them have defects.
The CDA may pass order to destroy the defective portion of the buildings or penalise the companies.
Meanwhile, CDA Chairman Abdus Salam alleged non-cooperation by his colleagues, saying they did not give any good suggestions in his 26-month tenure.
