6 killed in city road crashes
Six people, including a schoolboy and a nurse, were killed in five road crashes in the city yesterday.
The deceased were Shabnam Mushtari, 24, a nurse of Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute at Shahbagh; Mohammad Limon, 9, a class IV student of Pallabi Govt Primary School and also a helper of a human haular; Kirwan Murong, 22, a security guard of a garment factory at Banani; Shariful Islam, 32, a security guard; Khorshed Alam, 20, a helper of an air conditioner technician; and Khorshed's cousin Shah Alam.
Shabnam was run over by a Farmgate-bound bus of 'Bihanga Paribahan' while she was crossing the road in Bangla Motor area around 1:00pm .
Limon was killed when he fell down on a road from the rear of a speeding tempo and was hit by a covered van from behind at Pallabi.
Witnesses said the covered van first hit the tempo while Limon was standing at the rear at Lalmati Tempo Stand in Mirpur around 9:00am.
Police said locals caught the vehicle driver and handed him over to police.
Kirwan Murong was killed when an airport-bound speeding microbus hit him near Banani Chairmanbari area at about 12:15am while he was crossing the road.
The microbus fled after the accident.
Shariful Islam, of Nalitabari in Sherpur, was killed as an unidentified vehicle crushed him on Dhaka-Mymensingh road near Khilkhet Police Station around 4:30am.
Khorshed Alam and his cousin Shah Alam were killed when a speedy pickup van hit them while they were crossing Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Khilkhet over bridge around 7:30pm.
