Councillor confined for taking bribe
Some lactating mothers confined a councillor of Lalmonirhat municipality at Shahid Shahjahan Colony here yesterday noon for an hour demanding return of their bribe for issuing “fund for assistance to lactating mothers” cards.
He was freed by locals after assuring to return the money in 24 hours.
Lalmonirhat municipality, under a project conducted by Directorate of Woman Affairs, listed 1,050 lactating mothers from ultra poor class of nine wards to provide Tk 350 every month for two years to purchase nutritious food.
The mothers alleged that Abdul Hossain, councillor of ward number four, took Tk 500 each from 220 mothers a week ago, promising to get them the card but he did not issue the cards to them.
