With the dream to familiarise foreigners with her beloved country's flag, Wasfia Nazreen, a Bangladeshi female mountaineer, sets off early morning today in her journey to climb the seven highest mountains of the world's seven continents. Wasfia will be the first female mountaineer of Bangladesh to climb Europe's Mount Elbrus, Africa's Kilimanjaro, South America's Aconcagua, Antarctica's Vinson Massif, Nepal's Mount Sagarmatha, Alaska's Denali and Oceania's Puncak Jaya. Liberation War Museum organised a ceremony at its premises in the city yesterday to hand over a Bangladeshi flag to Wasfia and wish her well for the journey. Secretary-in-charge of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Tariqul Islam, Ain O Shalish Kendra Executive Director Sultana Kamal and Liberation War Museum Trustee Sara Zaker were present. Wasfia has been trained by renowned mountaineers of the world and already climbed Kala Patthar (5,560m) and Island Peak (6,200m) of Nepal. Wasfia said, “There are many obstacles that I will have to face to reach the peaks, which is only half the part. “I may not be able to reach all the peaks. But the physical and mental pressures that I will undergo will remain as my achievements.” Greeting Wasfia's parent for allowing her to climb the mountains, Tariqul said the government will provide all kinds of assistance to fulfill her dream. Sultana Kamal said Wasfia's attempt will inspire the young generation, especially females, to take on such endeavours and bring fame for the country.
