Veteran Awami League parliamentarian Suranjit Sengupta yesterday categorically said the next national election will be held under an interim government. "The interim government will not be like a political government and during the term of interim government, there will be no political government", he explained. The AL lawmaker was speaking at a commemorating programme of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam and freedom fighter MR Akhtar Mukul at the city's public library auditorium. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the programme with freedom fighter Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque in the chair. Suranjit, also chief of the parliamentary body on law ministry, called upon the main opposition BNP to find out proper solution to the nation's existing crisis over the caretaker government issue through discussion in parliament. "Let's do something better for the nation through mutual discussion, giving up spreading confusion over the constitutional amendment", he said. He also said there is no alternative to strengthening the Election Commission to hold the next national election in a fair, free, and transparent manner.
