64 organisations demand proper probe

Samajik Protirodh Committee, a platform of 64 women, human rights and development based organisations, yesterday in a statement demanded proper investigation into women repression cases and punishment of the culprits. It also called upon the government and law enforcement agencies to be more pro-active in preventing the ever-increasing repression on women. Twenty-seven representatives of 17 organisations among the 64 at a recent meeting at Bangladesh Mahila Parishad office in the capital expressed their concern over growing torture on women. They observed that the incidents of repression on women have been taking place to confine women to home. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Ain O Salish Kendra, Steps Towards Development, Bangladesh Nari Pragati Sangha, Brac Women for Women, Care Bangladesh, Bangladesh Mahila Samity, Nijera Kori, Manusher Jonno Foundation, Karmajibi Nari are the members of Samajik Protirodh Committee. One behalf of the committee, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam signed the statement.
