The ruling Awami League leaders and workers in Feni yesterday made commitment to free the district, once known as a criminals' den, from criminal activities. The vow came while AL Presidium Member Obaidul Quader MP was addressing a meeting at the district Shilpakala Academy. It was the party's first meeting in eight years here. As Quader asked Feni AL leaders and activists if they want to go back to the past, the party men shouted slogans that they do not want criminal activities in the district again. Quader said, “People want peace, not criminal activities. They want panic-free Feni. You [party men] will have to remove the panic from the Feni people and win their hearts through good work and good behaviour to gain their support in the next election.” Obaidul was in Feni yesterday to address the meeting organised as part of the party's organisational tour programmes in 20 major districts. AL leaders Ahmed Hossain, Faridunnahar Laily MP, President of BFUJ Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury also spoke at the meeting chaired by acting district unit president Aziz Ahmed Chowdhury.
