Artist Sultan's 87th Birthday

A three-day programme began at Sultan Moncho in the district around 10:00am yesterday marking the 87th birth anniversary of world famous artist SM Sultan. SM Sultan Shishu Charu-O-Karukola Foundation, Bengal Foundation and Sultan Foundation jointly are organising the event, sponsored by Banglalink. The programme includes boat race, cycle rally, discussions, cultural shows, children art camp, art gallery exibhition. A fair titled 'Sultan Utshab-2011' has also been arranged on Victoria College premises with at least 30 stalls. About 40 sports and cultural personalities from India are participating in the events. On August 10, 1924, Sultan, nick named Lal Mia, born in an ordinary family of Masumdia village in Narai,l devoted his time to painting nature till his death on October 10, 1994. The 3-day programme was inaugurated by Howladar Rokibul Bari, additional deputy commissioner (general). Sheikh Hanif, president SM Sultan Shishu Charu-O-Karukola Foundation, Bimanesh Chandro Biswas, its general secretary, Saiful Islam, district cultural officer, Joy dev Das, team leader of Indian sports and cultural team, Mihir Das, secretary, Kolkata Football Laover's association.
