Says home minister

Home Minister Sahara Khatun yesterday said the present government is totally free from corruption as nobody raised such allegations till now. She was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration programme of an “Anti-Corruption Road Show” organised by Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium. The government will not claim that it totally freed society from corruption as it is impossible only by enforcing law. Rather people from all walks of life should come forward and vow to resist corruption, she said. Speaking as the special guest, State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam said lawmakers and ministers will submit their wealth statements soon as per the prime minister's order, which proves that the present government is determined to curb corruption. Non-government organisations should also submit their statements about the amount of money they bring from foreign countries every year for development works, as the private sector is not free from allegations of corruption, he added. CRAB will organise anti-corruption concerts and processions in seven divisional cities in October to raise awareness against corruption. CRAB President Pervez Khan chaired the event where IGP Hassan Mahmood Khandker, Rab Legal and Media wing Director Mohammad Sohail, DRU President Mostak Hossain, actor Sakib Khan and singer Mehrin also spoke.
