Workshop on autism ends

The three-day professional training workshop on autism ended at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Friday. A total of 1,000 guardians of autistic children, trainers, psychologists, therapists, caregivers, doctors and students attended the workshop. At the closing session, Chairman of Bangladesh National Advisory Committee on Autism Saima Wazed Putul stressed the need for increasing training on autism for treatment and rehabilitation of autistic children. Saima Wazed, also daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sought co-operation from all to formulate a training manual on autism. BSMMU Vice-chancellor Prof Pran Gopal Datta also spoke. The workshop was organised as a part of just concluded international conference on “Autism Spectrum Disorders and Development Disabilities in Bangladesh and South Asia.”
