Dhaka keen on enhanced trade

PM tells Spanish envoy

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said relations between Bangladesh and Spain are steadily growing in depth and dimension with both sharing common views on many international issues through platforms like United Nations and World Trade Organization. She said this when the outgoing Spanish Ambassador to Bangladesh Arturo Perez Martinez paid a farewell visit to her at Prime Minister's Office. The prime minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed newsmen after the meeting. Hasina said Bangladesh wants enhanced trade and economic cooperation with Spain. She also expressed happiness over the growing interest of Spanish businessmen to import Bangladeshi products. The Spanish ambassador praised the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh and the peaceful way the recent local government election was held across the country. Perez lauded Hasina for her government's massive programmes to bring healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people and build a “Digital Bangladesh”. In this context, Hasina informed the ambassador about her government's initiative of producing laptops in the country at an affordable price. She also conveyed her greetings to the Spanish Queen. Ambassador at large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary to the prime minister MA Karim and Secretary to the prime minister Molla Waheeduzzaman were present. The Spanish ambassador also paid a farewell visit to Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
