Swami Amrittananda passes away

Swami Amrittananda, a leading spiritual personality and principal of Dinajpur Ramkrishna Mission, passed away at Dinajpur Diabetes Hospital on Saturday night due to liver cancer at the age of 79. His body was brought to the mission yesterday morning and kept for all walk of people. Hundreds of admirers and followers irrespective of Hindu, Muslim and Christian of different districts thronged the mission to pay their last tributes. His funeral was held at Dinajpur Central Crematorium yesterday. He was born at Sharnagram village of Munshiganj on March 17, 1933. Swami Amrittananda joined Ramkrishna Mission at Kolkata in 1953 and turned to asceticism in 1962. He joined Dinajpur Ramkirshna Mission as a principal on April 7, 1976. He also joined as a succour campaigner in the war-ravaged Bangladesh to rehabilitate the distressed people after the War of Liberation. He established a school in the district for educating Horijan community.
