Five killed in road crashes

Five people were killed and 20 others injured in road accidents in Rangpur, Magura, and Panchagarh yesterday and Sunday. A Rangpur correspondent reports: A youth died on the spot after being run over by a bus at Mithapukur. The victim, Mahbub Rahman, 28, hailed from Gabtali of Pirgachha upazila. After hitting Mahbub, the bus crashed into a roadside tree, which left 20 passengers of the bus hurt. Seven of the injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. In another accident, an unidentified bicyclist was killed after being hit and run over by a truck on Rangpur-Bogra highway at Modern point, outskirts of Rangpur town, yesterday. Our Magura correspondent says: Two persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Magura yesterday. Majnu Mia, 25, driver of an improvised passenger carrier, died on the spot as a truck hit his vehicle on Magura-Jessore highway in Moghi area yesterday. In another accident, Roisuddin Biswas, 46, of Abalpur area in Magura municipality, suffered serious injuries as he lost control over his motorcycle and hit a bullock-cart on Magura-Jhenidah highway in Chhoto-bridge area. Biswas succumbed to his wounds in Magura sadar hospital. Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: A motorcyclist was killed as a truck hit him from behind on Boda-Atwary road in Sathkhamer village under Atwary upazila in Panchagarh Sunday evening. The victim is Humayun Kabir, 38, son of Jahirul Islam of Sathkhamer village. Kabir was declared dead in Boda Upazila Health Complex.
