BCL activists attack general students at JU

Bangladesh Chhatra League activists at Jahangirnagar University attacked a procession of general students protesting power cut in the university early yesterday. Sources said that after 12:00am, over 100 students encircled the vice-chancellor's residence, demanding uninterrupted power supply during examination hours and the holy Ramadan. But Proctor Arju Miah resisted them from entering the VC's house, triggering an altercation. As the students reached Chaurongi, the BCL activists beat them up with iron pipes, rods, and sticks. Some protesting students alleged that the proctor influenced the BCL activists to attack them. The proctor was present during the assault, but did nothing to stop it, they said. Arju Miah said the protesters were ill-mannered and "came to create a problem at midnight". JU BCL Vice-president SM Niamul Parvez and expelled joint secretary Ajgar Ali were seen on the spot during the assault.
