19 motorists jailed
As many as 19 motorists were sentenced to seven days to two months in jail during a drive by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in the city yesterday.
The offenders, including six CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers, were sentenced for not following fare-reading meters and for holding fake driving license.
Two BRTA mobile courts conducted the drive in the city's airport road and Manik Mia Avenue as a part of the transport authority's routine crackdown on transport rule violations, BRTA officials said.
The mobile courts also fined Tk 20,200 the motorists and bus drivers for outdated car fitness and registration documents, violating route permits and taking extra passengers.
Executive Magistrate from the DC's Office Dr Rahima Khatun and BRTA Executive Magistrate ASM Rezaul Karim conducted the mobile courts.
Traffic police officials accompanied the BRTA officials in the drive.
