Case recorded on court order
Police yesterday recorded a case against two brothers who allegedly beat up a female journalist of ABC Radio in the city's Panthapath on Sunday following a court order Monday.
Sued are Saifur Rahman Sappu, owner of furniture shop Mohammadi Enterprise of Panthapath, and his younger brother Shahadat Hossain Seku.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court ordered Kalabagan police to record the case after police submitted a report to the court visiting the scene.
"After we found the incident true, we sent the report to the court Monday morning, and the court ordered to file a case the same day. As per court's order, a non-FIR prosecution was filed today (yesterday)," said Sub-inspector Tajuddin, investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Police, however, could not arrest the accused till filing of this report at 8:30pm. Kalabagan Officer-in-charge Enamul Haque said they sent two teams to arrest them.
The victim journalist said Sappu hit her with his motorbike from behind in front of Victoria University Sunday afternoon while she was returning home from office.
As she protested, Sappu hit on her face with helmet and hurled indecent words. His brother Seku came with some other men and beat her up while she screamed for help, she said.
She went to Kalabagan Police Station to file a case against the two brothers after taking primary treatment at a local hospital, but police refused to register the case and insisted her on filing a general diary (GD), she alleged.
