Road crashes kill 4, injure 13

Four people were killed and 13 others injured in separate road accidents in Gazipur, Naogaon, Rangamati and Madaripur yesterday. A correspondent from Gazipur reports: One man was killed and another injured as a Dhaka-bound vegetables-laden truck rammed a pick-up van and plunged into a roadside ditch at Sreepur upazila of Gazipur yesterday. Prakash, 26, helper of the pick-up van, and son of Shubir Chandra of Barisal, died on the spot. The van driver whose identity could not be known immediately was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The driver and helper of the truck went into hiding soon after the accident. Our Chapainawabganj correspondent says: A teacher of a kindergarten school was killed when a bus hit his motorcycle in front of Alpha Clinic at Najipur of Patnitola upazila in Naogaon yesterday. The deceased is Mohammad Ripon, 28, son of Ohir Uddin, of Nadore village of Potnitola upazila in Naogaon and a teacher of Al-Hera Kindergarten School in Najipur. Our Rangamati correspondent adds: One man was killed and four others were injured when a passenger jeep skidded off the road as its driver lost his control over the steering while the jeep was climbing vertical slope on Baghaichhari-Dighinala road at Baghaichhari upazila yesterday The deceased is Somopriya Chakma, 30, son of Chandra Toru Chakma, of village Charmile of Dighinala upazila in Khagrachhari. The injured were released after given first aid. Police seized the jeep but its driver escaped soon after the accident. Our Madaripur correspondent says: A woman was killed on the spot and eight others were injured when two Nosimon collided head-on in Biddyanandi area of Rajoir upazila in the district yesterday. The deceased is Kajoli Rani Majhee, 45, wife of Subhash Majhee, of Sundikuri village of the same upazila. The injured were admitted to Rajoir Health Complex.
