Sheershanews remanded again
The editor of Sheershanews.com, Ekramul Haq, was placed on a two-day remand yesterday again in connection with an extortion case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
Ekramul was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court yesterday on completion of his two-day remand in another extortion case filed with Kalabagan Police Station.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) Mohammad Wahiduzzaman of Shahbagh Police Station, also the investigation officer (IO), produced the accused with a five-day remand prayer.
Police told the court that the editor went to Mohammad Emdadul Haq, general secretary of class-IV employees' association of Secretariat, on July 20 and demanded Tk 10 lakh as extortion. The editor also threatened Emdadul with death if he did otherwise, police added. On the other hand, the defence lawyers submitted a bail petition and prayed for cancellation of the remand prayer.
Hearing both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman rejected the bail petition and placed Ekramul on a 2-day remand.
Mohammad Emdadul Haque filed the case against Ekramul on August 1.
Earlier on Sunday, the Sheershanews editor was remanded for two days in another case filed for demanding money from a trader of Panthapath.
He was arrested from his Baro Moghbazar residence in the city on July 31.
