Advance launch ticket for Eid from August 15
The launch owners will start selling tickets in advance for the home-bound people from August 15, a fortnight into the Eid-ul-Fitr that is likely to fall on September 1.
The decision emerged from a meeting among the shipping minister, the launch owners, and other government agencies concerned at the ministry's conference room yesterday.
At the meeting, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan warned of stern actions against those who will charge extra fare or sell tickets in "black market".
He also directed the Bangladesh Inland Waterways (passenger carrier's) Association to erect temporary ticket booths at the city's Motijheel or Purana Paltan to facilitate the passengers for collecting tickets.
The meeting decided that the movement of trucks, except urgency, will be stopped on all the ferry routes across the country three days before and after the Eid.
The minister said necessary measures will be taken to end harassment of passengers during the Eid rush. "All hawkers and illegal shops at the river ports including Sadarghat terminal will be evicted, and additional law enforcers will be deployed to maintain law and order".
He also said that from seven days prior to the Eid, one-way traffic system will be introduced between the foot over-bridge adjacent to Dhaka Collegiate School and Sadarghat from 4:00am to 8:00pm everyday to minimise traffic congestion.
