<i>Football match for stronger ties with Adivasis</i>
Aiming at stronger friendly relationship, the indigenous hill tracts people and plain lands people played in a friendly football match at Dhaka University central playground yesterday.
Bangladesh Adivasi Forum hosted the match inaugurated by DU Pro-Vice-chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid.
Chakma Circle chief Raja Devashish Roy said the event was organised to have a 'get-together' of the indigenous and plain lands peoples. It helps to strengthen friendly relation between them and gives recreation, he said.
Bangladesh Adivasi Forum general secretary Sanjeeb Drong said another purpose of the football match was to draw the government's attention to create opportunity for good players of the indigenous communities in the national sporting arena.
"Despite having a lot of talent, they [indigenous players] do not get proper opportunity to be flourished. The government should take necessary initiatives to nurture them", he said.
Raja Devashish Roy, former national football player Barun Dewan, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) instructor Paritosh Chakma, and DU Prof Mesbah Kamal, among others, played in the football match.
