The government is not following markets in the proper way. We want low price in market. Raihan Sharif
Perhaps if Commerce Minister and his family ate less then there would be more food for everybody! Iqbal khan
This is alarming for all of us. Measures should be taken by the authority immediately before it goes beyond control. Shahadat Hossain
Our market is controlled by the giant syndicates and importers of the country. The govt should take control over market. Rashed
Very true, need serious attention on the price hike of basic foods. I request the govt. to solve the problem on urgent basis otherwise situation may turn up into dangerous one. Md Kamal Uddin
Nowadays, businessmen are politicians and politicians are businessmen. Who will control the market price? Businessmen are making money in guise of politicians. People must suffer in such a situation. SNH
The article depicts the true plight of people. However, the condition in India, were not much different last year and the present year has brought great hardships in lives of common people everywhere. Anonymous
The AL government is fully responsible for all the suffering of the people of Bangladesh. They cannot blame anybody else. High prices of essentials, deterioration of law and order, political instability, recent problems in the courts and any other problems are created by the AL government. Manhal Ali
Awami League has promised us in their manifesto in 2008 that they would curb rising prices, reduce traffic jam etc. The manifesto didn't mention building a new airport or making deals with India. What has this elected govt. did for the sake of its people. They claim they work for people but they do not. Mohammed Shohel
I really wonder at the government's activities. People are deprived of their fundamental rights. The government is saying that they are taking a lot of initiatives but ultimately the mass people do not find any improvement. I think they are only busy to condemn each other than taking any development initiative. So, I urge the government to stop fighting and save innocent lives. Dr Karim
Price of essential commodities has gone high internationally. Good governance was absent in this country for last few decades. Administration acted like enemy of people simultaneously. Price hike is not only the government's fault. Opposition parties also have to take responsibilities. Market engineering is also possible at this time like 1974 by the people especially who opposes war crime tribunal. Commerce Minister's comment about less eating got only negative response. But at least some value is there. Shah Alam Khan
I am now a retired person and my better-half is a house wife. I was the soul earner of a big family of 10 members. Now my all children are established, well-educated and they are working abroad. I receive a good amount of pension and rents. Last month one of my tenants gave me leaving notice. She moved in May and was leaving in July. I was surprised and became hopeless. I got another from August and the rent was increased Tk 2,000 within three months which made me happy. But now after reading this news I became ashamed. I am really sorry for increasing rent.
