RMG staff shot, mugged Tk 36.70 lakh in city
Armed muggers on motorbikes shot an employee of a garments factory yesterday in broad daylight in the city's Matuail and rode away with Tk 36.70 lakh he had withdrawn from a bank.
Khairul Hossain Chowdhury, 40, chief accountant of Masters' Garments and Fashion located at Demra, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with bullets in his legs.
Six muggers on three motorbikes intercepted the car carrying Khairul and his two colleagues at Matuail Katherpool, said Mazharul Islam, sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station.
They were returning to the factory around 1:30pm after withdrawing the sum from Motijheel branch of Prime Bank, he said.
Selim Reza, compliance officer of the company who was present in the car, said “The muggers brought out Humayun Kabir, our director, at gunpoint and held us hostage.”
“As Khairul tried to resist the muggers, they fired shots in his legs and grabbed the bag containing money”, he said.
The others including the driver remained unhurt, the SI said.
“We are investigating the matter to be sure of the nature of the incident”, he said.
