Seven killed in road crashes
Three students of Narsingdi Government College were killed as their motorcycle was hit by a bus at Kundarpara in Shibpur upazila yesterday, reports our Narsingdi correspondent.
The deceased are Loknath, 25, Ashim Das, 26, and Mimu, 22. They all were friends and residents of Baniachal village in the town.
Police said they were going to Bhairab from Narsingdi by riding on a motorcycle when a bus coming from opposite direction hit their vehicle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
Loknath and Ashim died instantly at 7:00pm while Mimu succumbed to his injuries on the way to district hospital.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: An elderly man and his young son died as an improvised three-wheeler with six other people plunged into a roadside ditch in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat Thursday night.
The victims are Md Mofazzal Hossain, 65, and his son Anwar Hossain Anar, 27, of Pathandharagram village of Akkelpur upazila.
Witnesses said the vehicle packed with eight people and some cattle lost control and fell into Joypurhat-Naogaon highway-side ditch in Tilakpur village of Akkelpur around 9:20pm, leaving all the passengers wounded.
They were taken to Naogaon sadar hospital. But Mofazzal and his son were shifted to Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Still with no improvement, the two were being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. But they succumbed to their wounds on the way around 2:00am yesterday.
Our staff correspondent from Ctg says: A day labourer died after he suffered injuries as a covered-van collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda upazila early yesterday.
Highway Police said the deceased, Shamsul Alam, 40, hailed from Feni.
Shamsul, who was sleeping on top of the truck, fell on the ground, sustaining serious injuries as the collision occurred near Naniachhara area around 3:00am, said Assistant Sub-inspector Abul Kashem. The victim was declared dead in Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he added.
UNB from Sherpur adds: A nine-year-old boy was killed as a truck hit him on Sherpur-Dhaka highway in the sadar upazila yesterday.
The victim, Shakil, son of son of Afroz Ali of Chak Kamaria in the sadar upazila, was a class III student of a local primary school.
The truck hit Shakil at Tarakandi Bazar, leaving him dead on the spot.
Shakil's body was handed over to his family without autopsy.
